2008 National Urban League Conference
Comes To Orlando
ORLANDO - The historic 2008 National Urban League Conference will educate, engage, entertain, and energize the 10,000 to 15,000 attendees coming to the number one tourist destination in the world, Orlando! The Conference will be held at the lavish Orlando World Center Marriott Resort and Convention Center from Wednesday, July 30 – Saturday, August 2, 2008. We are extremely excited to have as the title sponsors of the Conference Darden Restaurants Inc. and the Walt Disney Company.
This year’s conference unites leading speakers, entertainers, community activists, government and political representatives, business leaders, and corporate recruiters in a four day premiere networking experience and opportunity. On Friday, August 1, the Presumptive Presidential Nominees, McCain and Obama, have been invited to discuss their platforms and focus on relevant issues that concern Black America. They will actively share their views on the creation and implementation of an urban agenda.
In addition, there will be various informative workshops and events which will enhance participants spiritually, intellectually, personally and professionally. There is also a FREE three day continuous Career Fair open to the local community and conference attendees. There will be 60 major corporations available offering opportunities from entry level positions to executive management positions. Career Fair attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in one-on-one career coaching session.
On Saturday, August 2 at 8:30am, there will be a Family Session & Interfaith Service with featured speakers, Pastor Randolph Bracy, Jr. of the New Covenant Baptist Church and Dr. Harold C. Ray of Redemptive Life, West Palm Beach, FL. The local faith community is urged to come out and show their support. On Saturday evening the Conference will culminate with the Whitney M. Young, Jr. Awards Gala honoring Nancy Wilson, Governor Deval Patrick, Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr., and Dr. Evelyn Brooks Higginbotham will be honored.
Throughout the conference, local small businesses will be given an opportunity to showcase and sell their products at the conference Marketplace. Everyone is invited to experience the awesome magic of Patti LaBelle at the House of Blues at Disney’s Pleasure Island on Thursday night and George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic at First Friday Funk Night at the Orlando World Center Marriott.
The Metropolitan Orlando Urban League has also organized an Infinite Scholars Scholarship Fair during the conference. The fair will be held at St. Mark A.M. E. Church, 1968 Bruton Boulevard, Orlando, on Saturday August 2, from 9am to 1pm. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity where 20 million dollars in scholarships will be awarded on site to deserving high school seniors and juniors.
