The GFWC Apopka Woman’s Club presents the annual SPRINGTIME FASHION SHOW by Dillards, at the Errol Estate Resort and Country Club in Apopka, on March 5, 2010.  Doors open at 11:30 am with a cash bar, fantastic lunch, and opportunity drawings. Cost of event is $25.00 with all proceeds going to scholarships and other charitable works. Join Be the Cause for our first ever Walk For Hope in Central Florida! March 6, 2010 from 9am-1pm. The Walk will begin next to Colibri Restaurant at 4963 New Broad Street Orlando, FL 32814 and will continue to Harbor Park at Lake Baldwin. Visit bethecause.org to register. The Walk for Hope is a reminder of the things that matter most in life. The purpose of the entire event is to spread more love in the world. The route is decorated with inspiring quotes, all of them hand-made.  The event is completely free, including a free t-shirt. The Walk for Hope can optionally be used as an opportunity to raise funds, with all donations going to a local charity that helps abused children, and relief efforts in Haiti. Be the Cause is an entirely volunteer-run network of individuals who wish to make a difference in the world.  Through our actions, we hope to raise awareness about issues going on in our community and the world around us.  The Walk for Hope is our gift to you. Applications are now available for K-12 private school scholarships this fall for children from families with limited incomes. The program, known as Step Up For Students, provides annual scholarships worth up to $3,950 that can be used at more than 1,000 private schools across Florida. To qualify, new applicants must meet the household income guidelines for the federal school lunch program. For a family of four, that income limit for the 2009-2010 school year is $40,793. Students must also be entering either kindergarten or first grade or have attended a public school this year. Applications are available online at
http://www.stepupforstudents.org or at the toll-free number, 1-866-406-6923. The program is limited statewide to $118-million, and the scholarships are available on first-approved, first-awarded basis. Step Up, also known as the Corporate Tax Credit Scholarship, was created in 2001 by the Florida Legislature to provide education options for economically disadvantaged children. The scholarships are financed by corporations that receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit for contributions up to 75 percent of their state income tax liability. This year, the program serves 23,400 students.

Look Good… Feel Better -   Co-sponsored by the American Cancer Society.  Specially trained cosmetology professionals in the community donate their time & expertise to teach women how to use cosmetics, wigs and scarves to cope with the unpleasant side effects of cancer treatment. VITAS Innovative Hospice Care of Central Florida needs volunteers in your area who can befriend terminally ill patients, provide relief for weary caregivers, accompany their pet on Paw Pals visits, visit with veterans, provide art and music therapy, make bereavement calls, sew, make crafts, help repair medical equipment, or help with administrative work.
