Parramore Kidz Zone Making A Difference - College Decision Day And More

BY LISA EARLY, Director Families, Parks and Recreation Department City of Orlando

ORLANDO - Friends of Parramore Kidz Zone:

We've been busy this month taking elementary and middle school kids to see the world, getting high schoolers ready for college, and helping college students get through the financial challenge of making it to graduation. Check out the photos exemplifying our work:

-College Decision Day on May 2nd. PKZ high school seniors stepped up to the mike to announce their college choices before an audience of parents and City officials. One of the kids was Laurden Official, who'll attend the University of Florida. That's him doing the gator chomp with Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, a loyal UF alum.

-A trip to the Florida Aquarium and Lowry Zoo on May 6th. We took 55 kids there - they saw zebras, sharks, elephants, stingrays and the City of Tampa for the first time.

-The Orlando City Council May 15th meeting. Two PKZ college students - Withney Simon and Nadege Rene - were awarded scholarships from the Kiwanis of Orlando Foundation, in memory of one of our beloved fallen young men, Gino Nicolas, who died in a drive by shooting in 2016. Withney attends Southern Illinois University, and Nadege attends Valencia College.

Thank you for being part of this important work!
